Independent Evaluation 2016

Our evaluation combines quantitive data shared by Home-Start North West
Kent with qualitative data gained through our engagement with key people.
30 families engaged with the evaluation, with the evaluator conducting 10
structured interviews in their own homes and 6 by phone. A further 14
parents engaged with the evaluator during visits to the Little Buddies social
group for parents of disabled children and the Purple Parenting course.
51 volunteers completed a detailed online survey designed to gauge their
perceptions of Big Lottery Fund impact, including 36 current volunteers. The
evaluator also engaged volunteers, and other key stakeholders during the
charity’s AGM in September 2016 and on a training course in July 2016.
16 external partners engaged with the evaluation via an online survey, email
feedback and telephone interviews. 93% of external partners are from
statutory services including Dartford Borough Council, Dartford Children’s
Centre, Kent County Council and Kent Community Health Foundation Trust.
In addition to engaging key stakeholders, the evaluator also reviewed
documents and data relating to the project including reports to Big Lottery
Fund, minutes of committee meetings, annual reports and data from MESH,
Home-Start’s bespoke national database which charts the progress made by
families towards improving their identified needs.

Our report sets out our findings from all of these activities with an emphasis
on the impact of the Big Lottery Fund project on local families over five years.
